PROFILE
KEISHI OTOMO
Born in 1966 in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, he graduated from Keio University, Faculty of Law, Department of Law.
In 1990, he joined NHK and worked at Akita Broadcasting Station before studying in Los Angeles for two years starting in 1997,
where he learned screenwriting and film directing in Hollywood. After returning to Japan, he directed various productions,
including the serial TV drama "Churasan series", "DEEP DIVE", "HAGETAKA (VULTURE)", "Shirasu Jiro", and the NHK Taiga drama "Ryomaden".
He also directed the 2009 film Hagetaka. In April 2011, he left NHK and established Ohtomo Keishi Office Co., Ltd. That same year,
he became the first Japanese director to sign a multi-film deal with Warner Bros. His films Rurouni Kenshin (2012), "Rurouni Kenshin": Kyoto Inferno,
and "Rurouni Kenshin": The Legend Ends (2014) were major hits. He continued to direct successful films such as ”Platinum Data” (2013),
”The Top Secret” (2016), "Museum" (2016), the two-part ”March Comes in Like a Lion" (2017), and "Million Dollar Man" (2018).
Beneath the Shadow (2020) and ”Rurouni Kenshin: The Final / The Beginning” (2021) were also released in theaters.
His latest work, "The Legend & Butterfly", was released on January 27, 2023, as Toei's 70th-anniversary commemorative film.
His upcoming film, "HERO's ISLAND", is scheduled for release in 2025.
